Political Uncertainty Holding Back Small Business Growth

Survey evidence shows that small firms are struggling to expand, hire and raise productivity as political uncertainty takes its toll on the economy.
Published by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), the Small Business Index (SBI) tracks the confidence of and outlook for small businesses in the UK.

The new national living wage came into effect at the start of this month, and while many workers have welcomed the increase, lots of small business owners have reported that they will struggle to afford the increase while retaining all of their staff members.
The national living wage is a new compulsory minimum wage of £7.20 per hour for the over 25s. This is a 50 pence increase from the previous rate of £6.70.
