Experts have claimed that the first revaluation of business rates since 2010 will benefit online retailers and high street chains, to the detriment of offline businesses and independent retailers.

Due in April, the controversial revaluation was initially welcomed by ministers.

Dutch bank ABN AMRO has teamed up with invoice management company InvoiceSharing to produce a new automated invoice accounting solution for SMEs.

The ‘touchfree’ add on will integrate with an SME’s online accounting platform to provide deeper accounting insights, allowing companies to estimate future working capital and secure funding.

An unusual tax tribunal raises questions about online businesses paying VAT, particularly in cases involving multiple parties.

The case background:
The recent tribunal case concerned the jewellery business, Partnership, which had a very close working relationship with a sole trader – Alla Kisil T/A Jewellery 4 All.

In 2009, the two members of the Avalaya partnership lent US$60,000 to the sole trader, who was a personal friend of the partners. The loan was to be repaid in pounds sterling.
